I found Halcrow's SANDS software both extremely accurate and impressively flexible. It gives the user the power to efficiently process and analyse complex beach and nearshore data sets and is a potent tool in coastal management. Having previously used excel to process beach profiles it quickly became apparent that the bespoke SANDS software offers vastly enhanced results, a multitude of functions and applications, and enormous time and effort savings. I also found the software user friendly and conveniently it was compatible with the various beach and nearshore data capture systems such as used by the CCO, and easy to synthesise with other GIS applications such as ArcGIS 10.
