SANDS technical training

Published on 18/10/2011 17:00

Halcrow understands that effective training enhances capabilities and enables you to get the most out of the software you use. Our training courses are aimed at asset managers, engineers, researchers and scientists involved with the management, analysis reporting of monitored data.  Typical applications include coastal monitoring, regional monitoring programmes, data acquisition and asset management.

The SANDS training course is run as part of an open programme with scheduled dates at various venues throughout the UK. We also run bespoke, specifically tailored courses that are developed to meet your individual organisational requirements, at a venue and time suited to your exact needs.

The SANDS training course assumes no prior knowledge of SANDS and is presented from a practical point of view by expert Halcrow SANDS users. The course is a generally one day session; however a longer more detailed session can be arranged. The course is delivered through a series of presentations, hands-on practicals and open discussion sessions. At the end of this course attendees should have an appreciation of SANDS capabilities and be able to undertake basic analyses.

For additional information on SANDS training courses, contact Alastair Sheppard at technicaltraining@halcrow.com or on +44 (0)845 094 7990.

SANDS applied across the globe

Published on 23/08/2011 16:03

SANDS is used throughout the world as an essential tool for regional management planning, flood risk management, asset management and shoreline analysis.

Used by shoreline managers, coastal engineers, asset managers and environmental scientists, SANDS helps to detect trends in the coastal environment and provides valuable support for development decisions.

SANDS has been used in Romania to establish a long term data collection programme which provides future coastal designers with increased confidence about the design of new structures and other beach management measures. It has been used in the UK under the south-east Strategic Regional Coastal Monitoring Programme by Canterbury City Council and other lead authorities. SANDS was also used on a United Nations and Food and Agriculture organisation project which focused on the rehabilitation of fishing harbours, landing sites and anchorages in Sri Lanka.
