All around the world we're dependent on the work of civil engineers and it's really important that we encourage able young people to consider that and to come into the industry.

The Engineering Education Scheme in England and Scotland links teams of Year 12 or S5/S6 students and their teacher with local companies to work on real-world scientific, engineering and technological problems.

This video focuses on the scheme's celebration and assessment day, where the teams showed off their completed designs. They also gave a presentation to the assessors. At the end of the event the students were awarded a bronze, silver, gold or platinum award for their efforts.

The scheme is run by The Engineering Development Trust. This not-for-profit organisation administers a number of initiatives designed to engage school pupils in science and engineering, with the aim of encouraging more young people to consider careers in these fields.
