To remove the need to use landfill, our team developed a remediation strategy to process over 200,000 tonnes of foundry sand on site, helping to protect the environment and reduce costs

Purchased from diesel engine manufacturer Lister Petter in December 2000, this 92-acre site in Dursley, Gloucestershire, is set to become an exemplary sustainable community, offering employment opportunities and 600 low-energy homes.

To embed sustainable principles at the outset and meet a commitment to provide 30 per cent of all energy from renewable sources, Halcrow examined opportunities for creating renewable and low-carbon energy on site and all the site’s new buildings have achieved the highest level of sustainability accreditation.

To remove the need to use landfill, our team developed a remediation strategy to process over 200,000 tonnes of foundry sand on site, helping to protect the environment and reduce costs.

We also led the development of an innovative sustainable drainage strategy which saw the reinstatement of the River Cam, forming a green corridor through the site, which encourages wildlife and enhances the environment.
