Sustainable development is not something we’ve recently discovered or suddenly started talking about. At Halcrow, we’ve been quietly working with progressive clients for decades – thinking, designing and building sustainably as a natural part of what we do.

Everything about our integrated approach serves to both reflect and reinforce our overarching purpose: to sustain and improve the quality of people’s lives.

We take on the big issues that affect us all – water, transportation, energy, and the need for places to live and work – and we concentrate on making these fit sustainably into the world around us.

And while we set ourselves stretching internal targets in terms of our resource use and carbon emissions, our major contribution in the drive for more sustainable global development is the services we offer our clients and the infrastructure we help to deliver.

What sets us apart from our competitors is the depth and breadth of our services, and the integrated nature of our skills. Clients come to us because they know they can get everything done under the one roof, working closely with a single, dedicated project team.

In helping local governments regenerate urban spaces and communities, for example, we’re able to provide everything from the conceptual master plan and environmental assessments through to low-carbon buildings, public transport interchanges and macro economic planning to help stimulate employment.

We help clients meet increasingly stringent building and environmental regulations, with ever-growing numbers of our employees certified to assess projects against recognised standards – BREEAM and CEEQUAL in the UK, for instance, and LEED in North America and the Middle East.

We have also developed a bespoke system – HalSTAR – which supports decision making on sustainability issues in any given context, helping to reduce risks and highlight opportunities for innovation, efficiency and added value.

From innovative approaches to flood risk management that work with natural processes, to designing major public transport schemes and paving the way for a low-carbon energy mix, our projects change people’s lives for the better and help safeguard our collective future.
