We are involved in a host of canal restoration and waterway regeneration projects

Halcrow plays a leading role in conserving the UK’s historic inland waterway network.

Providing solutions to schemes encompassing all types of inland waterway infrastructure, we are involved in a host of canal restoration and waterway regeneration projects.

Our experience spans feasibility and design work on a variety of inland waterway schemes, which often form an integral part of urban regeneration programmes.

These projects include lock refurbishment, canal restoration, flow and level control structures, culvert relining, marinas and bridges.

In focus video news - produced March 2012
Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal visits Stroud in Gloucestershire to open the newly refurbished Brewery Bridge and new Wallbridge Lock, part of a project to restore the Cotswold Canals.

National charity The Waterways Trust works with others to promote greater public enjoyment of our inland waterways.

Three Halcrow projects were recognised at the 2011 awards:

  • The Bedford and Milton Keynes Waterway project claimed the outstanding achievement award which gives special recognition to an inspiring project.
  • Three Mills Lock in east London won the design and construction category.
  • Ryeford Double Lock on the Stroudwater Navigation in Gloucestershire was runner up in the historic environment awards category.
