BREEAM assessors

Halcrow have long been associated with BREEAM and sustainable development and at a recent event hosted by BSRIA on the 14th of February 2012 entitled BREEAM 2011 – What’s your opinion?, Halcrow was named amongst the top 3 consultancies of the world who provide BREEAM services.

Unsurprisingly this reputation and proven track record has been down to the vibrant and vivacious team at Halcrow, who comprise not only of BREEAM Assessors, BREEAM Accredited Professionals (APs), Building Services Engineers, C4SH (Code for Sustainable Homes) assessors and Ecohomes Assessors, who all stem from various backgrounds ranging from geography to urban planning to civil and structural engineering, environmental engineering, physics, mechanical, electronic and electrical engineering, building engineering, environmental science, water and waste water engineering, architecture, cad and of course climate change and sustainability. Over time this depth and breath of experience has grown and has been offered to all clients on all projects, ensuring that our projects and clients always come out on top.

The Building Services team that sit alongside the BREEAM team, provide the BREEAM team complete technical assistance and advice. Many are BREEAM assessors themselves are often appointed as the M&E designers on projects, further ensuring compliance with BREEAM during design.

Roland Asbridge

“Being a BREEAM Assessor helps to inform my decisions as
a designer, ensuring that our proposals reflect current best
practice in environmental sustainability.”

Dr Jon Atkinson

“I have been a licensed BREEAM Assessor since 2003, and have forty certified buildings across a range of building types and scales to my name. All of them have achieved either a ‘Very Good’ or an ‘Excellent’ rating. I find that my foundation in BREEAM has informed and inspired my specialization in developing broad sustainability strategies for community and regeneration projects, as well as a more detailed formulation of energy and renewables strategies to meet ever-increasing carbon production targets.”

Richard Brimfield

“In addition to my role as building services engineer, I have provided BREEAM advice on a number of initiatives to ensure that sustainability pervades the design, construction and end use of the projects. Under the 2006 BREEAM schemes, I have completed assessments for two office projects and one bespoke project, all of which achieved the top rating of ‘Excellent’.”

Melanie Buckley

“I have been working on BREEAM projects for six years, and enjoy the opportunity it provides design teams to ensure that important issues which may otherwise have been neglected are taken into consideration. This leads to a final building which is often better suited to its owners and tenants than it would have been without the use
of BREEAM”

Mark Fenton

“With an academic background in climate change, working with BREEAM provides
me with rewarding experience and opportunities that promote best practice that limit the environmental impact of buildings and promote sustainability.”

Nzube Igwume

“It is the responsibility of building services engineers to ensure that the systems they design are not only functional, but also sustainable in both the short and long term. I feel that implementing the principles of BREEAM in the design process makes that process very efficient, and this is truly evident with the sustainability team here at Halcrow Yolles.”

Marcus Kan

“The most interesting thing about BREEAM to me, is that it covers so many aspects of a building’s journey – from the consultation process through to the life cycle of the finished building.”

Mandy Senewiratne

“My main remit in Halcrow Yolles for the past three years has been all things carbon and energy within the water and construction industry. My previous experience in carbon mitigation (foot printing); energy efficiency in asset management; water efficiency and water cycles studies; and low carbon construction all seem to have been leading the natural progression onto the sustainability team, and into the BREEAM realm which encompasses all of the above.”

Julie Alexander

Julie Alexander

“Having started with EcoHomes as my first experience of environmental rating systems in 2005 and moving on to the Code for Sustainable Homes, I have worked across a variety of BREEAM schemes and now provide BREEAM AP services to Halcrow projects. With early project involvement, I focus on assisting clients in really understanding the benefits of sustainability and how projects can benefit from low carbon design and clean energy as well as resource efficiency. I am passionate
about the practical and affordable applicability of design considerations and work with clients and project teams to realise the optimal design solution.”
